MEET THE WIMB TEAM FOR DECEMBER 2ND, 2021

AMANDA FERGUSON

Amanda Ferguson said: “It has been a rollercoaster of a year. We are gathering ahead of Christmas to discuss the big issues impacting women and girls, and coming up with solutions to make all our lives better. No woman left behind.

“It is a turbulent period in our history so I am looking forward to hearing what women want, and to letting my hair down to celebrate all the women who have been working hard to make change in Northern Ireland and beyond. If that sounds up your street get your tickets now. Book early to avoid disappointment!"

ALLISON MORRIS

Allison Morris said: “Women in Media Belfast has always been about giving a voice to those amazing women we knew were out there but were not being heard.

“We stand on the shoulders of the campaigning women who went before us, and owe it to the next generation to continue that work.”

PATRICIA MACBRIDE

Patricia McBride said: “The Women in Media Belfast end of year review is an opportunity to take stock of 2021, but more importantly to set forth challenges for the coming year. ‘What Women Want’ is to be at the forefront of policy development, legislation and media about us.

“The panels we have put together for this event are some of the must-hear voices in the community. And they have plenty to say!”

Introducing….

NIAMH CAMPBELL

Niamh Campbell is a news reporter for the Belfast Telegraph who previously worked for BBC Sport and BBC News NI.

She is a frequent contributor to BBC Radio Ulster and Times Radio.

On the night Niamh will be catching up with her East Belfast GAA teammates for a chat about their mission and achievements. She will also be asking you the audience - what do you want for 2022?

Niamh said: “My hope for the future is that more women's issues can be raised in the media, on both positive and more concerning levels, such as society combatting rising violence levels against women, the highlighting of female healthcare issues and the promotion of women in sport or typically 'male-dominated' fields."

Niamh will be assisted on the night by Ashleigh and Justina, who will be responsible for audience interaction, and also taking care of the guest list, ticketing, and covid cert checks, so have your ticket (LINK TO TICKET), face mask, covid cert, or proof of a negative test with you.

ASHLEIGH GAEL CLAYTON www.instagram.com/ashleighgaelwrites/

Ashleigh is a journalist student from Portrush said: “I spent my childhood writing stories and asking questions – many of them – so to fully understand the complexities of culture and everything that inhabits it on a global scale. 2019 ushered in the beginning of my career when I began my journalistic journey with Ulster University.

“Since then I have collaborated with organisations, societies, radio and the German Ministry to broaden my own understanding of sociopolitical issues but also to be the medium through which they reach others.

“I am interested in cultural and socio-political journalism.”

On what women want she added: “I would love to live in a world where women felt respected and safe in their own bodies. To go for a drink with friends, or walk alone at night, without the fear of being spiked, sexualized or threatened.

“We deserve to have choice without judgement, for women’s health to be taken seriously and reproductive healthcare to be accessible and affordable for all.”

JUSTINA DRUMSTATIÉ https://www.instagram.com/justina983/

Justina Drumstatié is a graduate journalist from Belfast via Lithuania.

She said: “I am incredibly excited to be a part of this event.

“I am from Lithuania, but have been living, working and studying in Belfast for the past five years.

“I am a fresh graduate with a journalism degree, trying to push through the negative stigma of modern journalism worldwide, especially in Northern Ireland.

“By engaging with different social groups, and interacting on social media I've been able to discover the most diverse and welcoming communities across the country, offering new opportunities and great communication skills to be used.

“In my free time I tend to consume different content from various counties, touching upon some very important topics today, as well as enjoy various genres of music.

“I am mostly interested in radio journalism, also I enjoy television and production work, as well as networking and freelancing work opportunities.”

On what women want she added: “I like the quote - ‘With each generation, women’s ability to live the lives they choose reaches a place their grandmothers never thought possible. But that doesn’t mean everything is perfect or that our work is finished’ - by Cathy McMorris Rodgers.”
