WOMEN ON AIR’S FIRST BELFAST MEDIA TRAINING SESSION

It ‘twas the eve eve before International Women’s Day week!

WIMB CIC was thrilled to collaborate with Women on Air for a media training session at U105 on Saturday.

What a day we had! We are just coming up for air now.

We were oversubscribed, and in the end our final 21 included: India Atkinson; Fatima Sarwari; Victoria Johnston; Holly Lester; Eva Kearney; Clodagh Traynor; Dr Sophie Doherty; Anthonia Lola Dickson; Becky Bellamy; Dr Gillian W Shorter; Jan Sloan; Anne Madden; Haileigh Ashton Lamont; Ellen Finlay; Angela Craigan; Maureen Hamblin; Dr Elspeth Vischer; Judith Millar; Caoimhe Clements; and Lili Busby.

Thanks to Women on Air’s Pat Coyle, Noelle O’Reilly and Jimmy Norman. Also to U105, the Radio Academy, and Peter and Aoife McVerry. And to Aiken PR and Rebel & Ruse.

Pat identified the elements that make a story newsworthy, and assisted participants in telling their own newsworthy story on both radio and television. Jimmy shared the ‘dos and don’t’ for TV. And with them Noelle, and WIMB chair Amanda also put the group through their paces, and were on hand to offer hints, tips, and advice.

Media is a changing landscape so were were pleased to work with journalists, academics, artists, professionals, influencers, and activists from many fields.

The feedback has been fantastic. The experience of doing radio and TV interviews has given the women more confidence, some of the skills needed to make their voices heard, and a thirst for future learning.
