It can be a traditional news report style,, a TikTok style clip, or whatever your imagination comes up with.”
The judging panel includes Women in Media, Clíodhna Nic Bhranair from Áras Úi Chonghaille, leading trade unionist Patricia McKeown and artist and designer Sara O’Neill, whose latest work is being exhibited at the Ulster Museum.
Unison Regional Secretary Patricia McKeown said she was delighted to support the WIMB initiative, and looked forward to seeing the reports.
“Trade unions are champions of workers’ rights and women’s rights and it is vital that a younger generation join unions to fight for their rights,” she added.
Sara O’Neill said: “My recent work has paid homage to the “Millies,” the thousands of skilled working-class women who were the backbone of the textile industry for so many generations. Their contribution to the economy and social fabric of our communities was overlooked for so long and I wanted to try and do something to correct that. I look forward to seeing and hearing the submissions to the competition and am delighted to work with Women in Media Belfast to help amplify the voices of the future.”
Clíodhna Nic Bhranair from Áras Úi Chonghaille said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Women in Media Belfast for this competition which will highlight the hugely important role of women workers and of trade unions, echoing the writings of James Connolly, which are still incredibly relevant in today’s world.”
